Stream keys are necessary on any platform, it’s the long code that you input to your streaming software in order to live. Countless times I’ve been asked “Where’s my stream Key” or “How do I start streaming.” Unfortunately, it can be almost impossible to find if you don’t know where to look, as its different on every platform, so this guide will tell you how to find it, on twitch, YouTube and Facebook Gaming! Never share your stream key with anyone, not even your best moderator or your closest friend, because if they have it and share it, anyone can go live to your channel and display anything – possibly even content that could get you banned.

How to find your stream key on twitch

Twitch is a live streaming service, owned by amazon and introduced in 2011. It allows streamers to become Affiliates, or Partners to start making money however in order to start your stream, you need your stream key!

To get your twitch stream key, go to the twitch website, Sign into your account and go to your creator dashboard.

Along the left, there are categories. Go down to preferences, and then ‘Channel.’

The first thing you see on that page should be your stream key. We recommend just copying it, rather than pressing show to avoid any risks. Once you have copied it, input it to your streaming software and you should be ready to go live. The stream Key often resets, so we recommend bookmarking this page, so you know exactly where to look.

YouTube is an American online video sharing and live streaming platform founded in 2005. If you get over 1000 subscribers on YouTube, your channel can become monetised and you will make money off of the ads displayed before, after and during your videos.

In order to find your stream key, you must go to this link (https://www.youtube.com/live_dashboard), and scroll down to the bottom.

At the bottom it says, ‘Encoder Setup’, then underneath that it says the server URL and the Stream name/key. Copy that code. Once you have copied it, input it to your streaming software and you should be ready to go live. The stream Key often resets, so we recommend bookmarking this page, so you know exactly where to look.

Facebook live, launched in 2016, is a feature of Facebook that allows users to stream its from their phones, or other devices. It allows the streamers with over 300 viewers to setup ad breaks, which the streamer will earn money from.

To get your Facebook live stream key, you need to go to Facebook Live and select 'go live.'

Scroll down and select ‘use stream key.’ Below that, a stream key will be generated allowing you to copy it. Make sure that you copy the stream key, not the Server URL. Be careful at this stage as the Stream key isn’t covered, so it will instantly show up for anyone to see.

Once you have copied it, input it to your streaming software and you should be ready to go live. The stream Key often resets, so we recommend bookmarking this page, so you know exactly where to look.

Where to input your stream key to the streaming software

Now that you have your stream key, you need to paste it into your streaming software, so that you can hit the ‘Go live’ button.

Once you are in your streaming software, go to settings then, then Stream. This might vary in different software.

Paste your stream key into the Stream Key box, and make sure you select the correct service. We don’t recommend changing the sever, unless you have issues with the Auto one. If you have issues with the server, it could be your Wi-Fi. Check out this site to improve your Wi-Fi, so your stream uploads to the web perfectly.

Once you have copied it, input it to your streaming software and you should be ready to go live. The stream Key often resets, so we recommend bookmarking this page, so you know exactly where to look.
